Extract text from images online free with OCR. Turn photos, screenshots and scans into editable text you can copy. Secure processing, files auto-deleted.
OCR (optical character recognition) analyzes the pixels of an image, detects letters and words, and rebuilds them as real text you can copy, search and edit — no retyping needed. It works on photos of documents, screenshots, scans and signs in JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, WebP or TIFF format. Accuracy depends on the source: sharp, well-lit images with clear printed text recognize best. Uploads are processed securely on our server and deleted shortly after.

OCR stands for optical character recognition — it detects letters and words in an image and converts them to editable text.
English is recognized by default. The engine reads clear printed and screenshot text most accurately.
It is processed securely on our server and deleted automatically a short time later.
Accuracy depends mostly on image quality. Sharp, straight, well-lit photos of printed text can come out near-perfect, while blurry, skewed or low-resolution images recognize less reliably.
The engine is tuned for printed and on-screen text. Neat block handwriting may partially work, but cursive writing is usually not recognized reliably.
Use the highest-resolution image you have, keep the text horizontal, avoid shadows and glare, and crop away busy backgrounds before uploading.
